Reboring TC barrels opens the doors to many possibilities.
Examples of what can be done.
I have done quite a few custom projects rebored by Jesse, and each one has resulted in a superb set-up from muzzle to breech, well worth the added cost.

The Principles Behind What Can Be Done:
First, the desired chamber must be appropriate for the gun. Larger diameter rounds the same headsize as .444 Marlin & .308 Win. types like .307 Win. must not exceed about 45,000 psi in the Contender. Ammo that is factory loaded hotter than this should not be chambered in Contender barrels. |
|
To get one of my favorites, very popular here, .357 Rem. Maximum in either a Contender or Encore:
Start with anything with a smaller bore than .35 and a chamber smaller than that of the .357 Rem. Maximum.
This would include:
.22 LR
.22 Mag.
.22 Hornet & K-Hornet
.222 Rem.
.223 Rem.
6mmx .223 Rem. & 6mm TCU
6.5 TCU
7mm TCU
.300 Whisper
.32-20
.32 H&R Mag. |
|
.35 Cal. Options for the Contender can include:
.35 Rem. and .35 Rem.-Rimmed (cases made from .30/40 Krag brass)
.358 Bellm
.358 JDJ
These should all be done in 14" or longer barrels. |
|
.41 cal. options in the Contender and Encore:
.41 Mag.
.414 Super Mag. |
|
Good .338 cal. options include .338/06 & .338/06 Imp., .338 Federal, or .338 Win. in an Encore:
For .338/06 you have to start with something that has an existing chamber shoulder diameter smaller than that of the 7mm-08 & .308 Win. chambers and having a bore size smaller than .338 of course. This can include include the various .22 cals such as .22 Hornet and ..223 Rem., .22-250, .25/06, and .270 Win.
The .243 Win, 7mm-08, and .308 Win. can be rebored and rechambered to .338 Federal, .338/06 Imp. & .338 Win. Mag.
7mm Rem. Mag. can be converted to .338 Win. Mag. |
|
.35 cal. options in the Encore include .35 Whelen, .35 Whelen Imp., .35 Brown-Whelen, .35x.338 Win. Mag., and .358 Norma Mag.
The standard Whelen must be done in a barrel with a chamber shoulder diameter the same size as .30/06 and the shoulder located no farther forward.
For example, in addition to all the smaller chambers with shoulder diameters smaller than that of the .308 Win. types, .25/06 and .270 Win. can be converted to the standard .35 Whelen, but the longer bodied .280 Rem. cannot.

Rebore/Rerifle, choice of twist rate $225.
Jesse is tooled to cut rifle .338 cal. and larger.
Reboring requires recrowning as well. My precision recrown is $50 additional, so figure the total cost of reboring $275.
Most rechambers are $100.
Due to special interest and emphasis on .357 Rem. Max, rechambering to .357 Rem Max is $75.
