Bellm Custom Accuracy Oversized Hinge Pins for TC Encores, Contenders, and G2s remove the shake and rattle at the hinge area, improve accuracy, and give the precision fit you find in the world's most expensive high grade guns.
Any looseness at the hinge pin results in less than optimum accuracy. Tighten up the fit at the hinge pin, and accuracy nearly always improves.
A snug fit at the hinge is essential to best accuracy.
A barrel that shakes and rattles cannot be expected to place shots in the same place each time. You would not accept a bolt action rifle with a loose barrel, so why be expected to settle for a loose barrel on a break open gun?
I have been selling the Contender Oversize Hinge Pins for nearly 25 years and have had literally thousands of reports of improved accuracy from the precise fit these pins provide at the hinge.
According to TC and a few aftermarket shops, you are supposed to accept a loose barrel fit; however, there are tens of thousands of shooters using our oversize hinge pins that would strongly disagree with them.
There are now 4 sizes of Encore pins so that if one size is not quite large enough, you go to the next larger size. Start with the 1x size. If the 1x size is not large enough, move up to the 2x size. If it is not large enough, move up to the 3x size, and in some instances the 4x will be needed.
The 1x and 2x sizes will cover probably close to 90% of barrel and frame hole combinations for a nice, precise fit. Starting with the 1x & 2x 2-pin Pack is a good way to go that can save time and shipping later if you discover you need the 2x pin after all. While the 1x pin covers the vast majority of needs, it also serves as an economical "guage pin" to determine if you need a larger pin. Buying and learning how to accurately use small hole guages and micrometers is much, much more expensive! If you get the 2-pin Pac and find you do not need to use the 2x pin, at worst you have $15 tied up in an item that you or a friend will likely need at some point in your Encore shooting future.
Reamers for Contenders and Encores are seldom needed except for the larger Encore pins. In the event you find you need to ream either a barrel or frame hinge pin hole to match the larger opposing hole in order to get a good fit, a variety of reamers are offered under the "Tools" menu to the left. You are welcome to buy reamers of course, BUT I recommend that you do not buy any reamer until you find you actually need it. Start with the 1x pin, and if you find it is loose in an opposing hole, go to the 2x pin. If reaming one of the holes is necessary, then consider the reamers.
Periodically someone asks if we have "stainless" hinge pins, and the answer is no. "Stainless" is not only not needed, it is the wrong material for the interference fit required at the hinge. Stainless against stainless is more prone to galling. Therefore, for BOTH stainless barrels and frames and blued barrels and frames we use only deep case hardened, alloy steel, which will take bluing, but instead, we leave them brightly polished and do not blue them.
In the menu at left, select from Contender/G2 or Encore in the drop down options below the main Oversize Hinge Pin option.
